What you'll be doing

About the Role Medical Retina Fellow commencing February 2027

The Medical Retina Unit has two fellowship positions starting February and one starting in August each year. The unit is headed by Dr AmyCohn and there are twenty consultants attached to the unit, all of whom have completed subspecialty fellowship training in retina. The position is a combination of clinical (0.8 FTE) through the Royal Victorian eye and Ear Hospital and research through the Centre for Eye Research Australia / Cerulea (0.2 FTE).

The Fellow attends both Medical Retina and Ocular Immunology Clinics each week. There is also the opportunity for rotation through Ocular Genetics, Vitreo-retinal and Ocular Oncology clinics. Fellows will be rostered to weekly intravitreal injection and laser clinics. There is a fortnightly cataract surgery list primarily for patients with retinal disease. Successful applicants are expected to have experience in retinal laser, intravitreal injections and cataract surgery. There is a weekly angiogram meeting for interesting case discussion and teaching. In addition, fellows will have the opportunity to present at department meetings.

The research is supervised by Professor Robyn Guymer (Head of Macular Research Unit) and Professor Lyndell Lim (Head of Uveitis and Retinal Vascular Disease Research). Two sessions per week are dedicated to research and ongoing involvement with trials supervised by the Macular Research Unit and Clinical Trials Unit.

The Medical Retina Fellow participates in the Emergency Department roster with hours ranging from 0745 to 2200 and Saturday or Sunday shifts as rostered. After hours on call will be required.

JOB OVERVIEW Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling (formerly VVCS) is Australia's leading provider of high-quality mental health assessment and clinical counselling services for Australian veterans and their families. Clinicians (APS 6) work within the Open Arms Division of the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) providing counselling services to current and formerly serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, their partners, and families. • Provide psychosocial assessment, counselling and bereavement support
• Advocate for patients and connect families with community services
• Identify grief risk and provide tailored support and referral
• Advise teams and agencies on specialist psychosocial care
• Lead education, supervision and support for staff and students
• Build community partnerships around grief, loss and resilience
• Shape service improvement, research and best practice models
• Maintain high professional standards aligned with the AASW Code of Ethics and AASW Practice Standards

You are a compassionate and collaborative Social Worker who brings sound clinical judgement and confidence supporting patients and families with complex psychosocial needs. To be successful in this role you will:

• Hold a degree giving eligibility for full AASW membership
• Bring health experience in complex psychosocial care
• Apply counselling skills with individuals and whole families
• Work confidently within an interdisciplinary care team
• Understand palliative care, grief and bereavement support
