Where you'll be working

John Hunter Hospital (JHH) in NSW, is the largest tertiary teaching hospital outside Sydney, offering a range of Medical, Surgical, Maternity and Critical Care services. You will be joining a team of 25 dietitians ranging from new graduates, student educators, clinical specialists and dietetic leaders that work across John Hunter Hospital (JHH), Belmont District hospital (BDH) and Rankin Park Centre (RPC). Our team is known for supporting and empowering excellence in nutrition care through driving continuous innovative improvement, engagement and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a new graduate who is passionate about dietetics and excited to start their career in a fast paced acute hospital setting. No two days will be exactly the same! Your focus will be on building your clinical knowledge, developing practical skills and providing high quality, patient centred nutrition care to a diverse range of inpatients. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you'll be the nutrition expert on the ward advocating for evidence based care and helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes through nutrition.

Starting your first dietetics role can feel exciting (and maybe a little daunting!), so you won't be expected to navigate it alone. You will be joining a team that understands what it's like to be a new graduate. We're here to support you, answer your questions and help you grow into a confident clinician. You'll be supported by the JHH Nutrition and Dietetics leadership team, with an initial orientation to the department, your allocated workload and the clinical systems used across HNELHD. You'll also have access to ongoing clinical supervision as you develop your skills and confidence. As a new graduate, you'll attend the HNELHD monthly new graduate education sessions, as well as JHH/BDH continuing professional development (CPD) sessions. These provide opportunities to build your knowledge, learn from experienced clinicians and connect with other dietitians across the service. Throughout your contract, you will get the opportunity to be involved in a small quality improvement project

Details of the Role

Contract: Temporary full time, mid February 2027 to mid February 2028. If available, there may also be an opportunity to commence part time from December 2026.

JHH caseload: Initially, the caseload is expected to include general medicine and/or orthopaedics and may change throughout the contract.

Weekend work: You may be required to participate in the weekend roster and/or work across other sites during the contract.

• Willingness and availability to work across a 7-day roster and rotate between sites within HNELHD as required
• Must be graduating in this calendar year (2026) and have your last clinical placement supervisor as a referee
