WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is offering a unique opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist (CAMHS) to join one of its highly desirable regions - the Great Southern.

This is a vacancy to fill one permanent, sessional appointment at 0.6 FTE (12 sessions per fortnight) at Albany. One session = 4 hours.

Consultant Year 1-9: $815.10 - $1,035.88 per session.

The above rate is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024 (inclusive of base Salary, 12% superannuation, and professional development allowance, pro rata). This is subject to the assessment of qualifications, clinical skills, and years of practice.

In this position, you will deliver comprehensive clinical assessments and provide psychiatric care and treatment for children and adolescent in the community and inpatient setting. The caseloads are extremely manageable, and being on the on-call roster for the regional psychiatric service is negotiable.

There is a strong commitment to ongoing education, training, and research with ongoing projects and links with the local Rural Clinical School and local Universities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide clinical governance across the Great Southern for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Stream in consultation with the CAMHS Regional Team Leader.

• Deliver comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnoses, and psychiatric treatment, ensuring that best practice clinical interventions are provided for children and adolescents.

• Liaise and confer regularly with general practitioners, paediatricians and other health care professionals.

• Supervise and mentor medical students, junior doctors and rural training psychiatry registrars.

• Participate in continuing professional development and contribute to education, training and research projects relevant to the mental health service.

• Provide a secondary consultation service during clinic hours for General Practitioners in the catchment area.

• Participate in the on-call roster for the mental health team and the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) roster (negotiable).

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you'll provide specialist Older Peoples Mental Health expertise to consumers with complex mental illness and ageing-related needs. You'll combine clinical leadership with partnership building, education and service improvement to help people achieve greater independence and quality of life.

Provide specialist assessment, crisis intervention, treatment, care planning and coordination for older people with severe and persistent mental illness.

Deliver intensive outreach and recovery-focused interventions to support PCLI/OPMH consumers to transition safely from hospital to community care.

Provide clinical supervision, consultancy, mentoring, education and training to strengthen contemporary mental health practice across teams and RACFs.

Lead and champion practice improvement, service development, quality initiatives, education, evaluation and research.

Collaborate with consumers, carers, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to develop individualised care plans and connect people with the right services and supports.

Qualification: Bachelor degree or higher level

Registration: Demonstrated full registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist, Nurse or Psychologist, or eligibility to be a member of the AASW as a Social Worker (Registered Nurse requires at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and approved post registration nursing qualifications relevant to the position)

Demonstrated skills in mental health and discipline specific assessments and interventions and experience working with older people with severe and persistent mental illness.

Proven recent experience in a mental health leadership and/or change management role.

Proven clinical experience within a multi-disciplinary team with the ability to provide consultancy, supervision, education and training on clinical issues.

Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills with computer competence and literacy, including the use of database systems.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate meaningfully with consumers and carers with a commitment and understanding of recovery principles in mental health service provision.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing or another relevant discipline.
• Registration or accreditation with the relevant professional body (AHPRA, AASW, ACA, PACFA or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience providing therapeutic, mental health or wellbeing support to children and families.
