Registrar – Addiction Medicine Advanced Trainee | SALHN Drug & Alcohol Services SA
Join SALHN Drug and Alcohol Services as an Advanced Trainee Registrar in Addiction Medicine and build Fellowship-level expertise within one of South Australia's largest public health networks. You'll deliver meaningful clinical care to patients with complex substance use presentations while progressing through a structured RACP training program with dedicated supervision to obtain the Fellowship of the Chapter of Addiction Medicine (FAChAM). This full-time contract role runs through to February 2030, offering the continuity and clinical depth you need to complete your training and make a genuine impact.
About the role:
Reporting to the Clinic Manager (Operationally) and Clinic Specialist/ Director (Professionally), this role contributes to the provision of medical services by developing and maintaining client programs including providing both treatment and effective management of substance related problems, acute and chronic medical conditions.
Duties for the role will include:
- Provide treatment and ongoing management of substance related problems (both inpatient and outpatient) as well as the effective management of other acute and chronic medical conditions,
- Use standardised and informal assessment protocols to form an accurate diagnosis and to develop and implement individual treatment programs,
- Develop and maintain accurate and timely client records and data forms concerning the assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment of clients,
- Undertake the RACP FAChAM training requirements,
- Participate in DASSA’s in-service training, medical meetings, self-directed learning and attendances at seminars/conferences,
- Offer and provide both a formal and informal consultancy service
About you:
- Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration,
- Pre-requisite qualifications for RACP advanced training program in Addiction Medicine,
- Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA),
- Current practising certificate, valid in South Australia,
- Possess flexible and non-judgemental attitudes, which enables working with difficult and complex clients,
- Demonstrated high degree of competence in the delivery of medical services to individuals, couples/families,
- Ability to work effectively in a medical team within a multi-disciplinary setting and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff at all levels, clients and community agencies,
- Demonstrated experience working with people with a wide range of personal problems and working with clients presenting difficult management problems
