RFDS SA/NT retrieval doctors support remote South Australia & Northern Territory by providing remote emergency advice, clinical coordination of primary retrievals & aeromedical emergency care from our Port Augusta base. You may be based/living in Adelaide maintaining your skills in emergency medicine or anaesthesia, with a passion for supporting regional communities part time by driving to Port Augusta once every 4-8 weeks for a 4-7-day rotation as part of a team of highly skilled doctors and flight nurses. • Unrestricted Medical Practitioner registration with AHPRA.
• Fellowship with ACEM, ANZCA or RACGP/ACRRM with JCCA or GEMS certification.
• Minimum three years' experience in Emergency medicine and/or Anaesthesia.
• Minimum 6 months training in a critical care environment.
• Experience in procedural skills, resuscitation and paediatrics.
• A good understanding of and appreciation for primary healthcare, allied healthcare and your nursing colleagues.
• Experience supervising and mentoring consultants, registrars and medical students.
• Highly developed leadership, management and communication skills.

Ideally, you will also have experience in remote area medicine, along with a well-developed understanding of rural and remote Australia and the challenges of providing first class healthcare within these environments.

Rural Generalists (RGs) at RFDS join a team that combines experienced RGs alongside Retrieval Consultants, together providing primary care, emergency aeromedical care and telemedicine - a uniquely supported environment for RGs and senior GP trainees alike.

The RFDS Primary Health Care Service is delivered by a team of RGs, ACRRM and RACGP Registrars, nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals. Comprehensive health services are delivered by a combination of telephone consultations, scheduled fly-in clinics encompassing GP/Nurse/Midwife/Mental Health/Oral Health, with additional permanent Remote Area Nurse clinics across various SA locations. These services include General Practice, Preventative Health, Community Medicine, Obstetrics Shared Care, Aged & Palliative Care, Men's & Women's Health, Mental Health, Sexual Health, and Aboriginal Health.

RGs also provide emergency telehealth consultations to both patients and remote area clinicians (RANs, mine site paramedics), and low to moderate acuity emergency aeromedical care collaboratively with our highly skilled flight nursing team. High acuity retrieval cases are additionally supported by a team of Retrieval Consultants, providing additional critical care advice both on call and in person.

All new doctors receive a formal week-long clinical orientation in Adelaide, followed by supernumerary buddied shifts the first week in Port Augusta. The service is supported by administrative staff and a 24/7 Operations Control Centre located on-site.

With a keen interest in rural and remote emergency and primary care medicine you will be challenged to use your expertise and initiative in both aeromedical and remote outback clinic environments.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Current Fellowship or on a pathway to fellowship with one or more of the following:
  • Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACCRM)
  • Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP)

The Clinical Director Retrieval Services is the medical head of aeromedical retrieval services in RFDS SA/NT. The role supports the Executive General Manager of Medical and Retrieval Services and leads a team of doctors in the achievement of our strategic goals, ensuring the delivery of 24/7 high quality aeromedical clinical care and best practice clinical governance aligned to NSQHS standards. The role is also responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of alternative and innovative service delivery methodologies.

You'll come to work knowing that your efforts are enabling our organisation to remain at the forefront of rural and remote health care delivery and advocacy. Importantly, you're also helping ensure our organisation is efficient, effective and sustainable now and in the future.
