Job Description About the Role

You will:

• Providing a culturally safe, trauma-informed and clinically responsive entry point into the service through triage, intake, risk assessment and referral coordination.
• Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients from referral through to allocation, ensuring timely access to appropriate supports that reflect their individual, family and community needs.
• Responding to duty presentations, including clients experiencing distress, high-risk concerns and walk-in presentations, with a focus on safety, engagement and continuity of care.
• Facilitating access to internal and external supports through strong referral pathways, warm handovers and ongoing follow-up to ensure clients remain connected to appropriate care.
• Delivering brief clinical interventions, counselling, group support and engagement activities that promote wellbeing and support positive client outcomes.
• Provide timely and effective triage, assessment and management of incoming referrals in accordance with service guidelines and clinical priorities.
• Undertake risk assessments, safety planning and crisis intervention as required, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
• Contribute to service development and continuous quality improvement activities that enhance client access, engagement, safety and outcomes.

About You

You bring:

• Eligible for registration as an Allied Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or membership/accreditation with a recognised counselling professional body, with a minimum of three (3) years' relevant post-qualification experience.
• Demonstrated experience working within community mental health services and/or the non-government (NGO) sector, including supporting clients with complex mental health and psychosocial needs.
• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, including those experiencing complex mental health concerns and co-occurring alcohol and other drug issues, with an understanding of the factors that impact social and emotional wellbeing and access to care.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to operate autonomously with limited direct supervision.
• Ability to work under pressure in a busy workplace environment, to assess priorities and meet deadlines, and respond appropriate to difficult and/or stressful situations in a calm, sensitive and professional manner.
• Demonstrated competence in developing client-centred goals and implementing evidence-based interventions and support strategies.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.
• Training in brief interventions, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed practice or other evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
• Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health and the ability to apply this knowledge to support holistic, client-centred care.
• Capacity to provide innovative solutions to complex problems, and ability to engage, negotiate and resolve conflict.
