Social Worker Grade 3 - Intake, Assessment and Counselling Clinician SECADA

About the Role

We're looking for experienced Grade 3 Social Workers to join SECADA (South Eastern Consortium of Alcohol and Drug Agencies), providing intake, assessment, counselling and treatment planning for people experiencing alcohol and other drug concerns.

Working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and circumstances, you'll take the time to understand the whole person - their substance use, physical and mental health, relationships, supports, risks and what they want to change. From there, you'll work collaboratively with consumers to identify their treatment needs and connect them with the most appropriate pathway forward.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct comprehensive alcohol and other drug assessments, including risk assessment and screening
• Develop person-centred treatment and care plans
• Provide evidence-based counselling, brief interventions and therapeutic support
• Support people to reduce substance-related harm and strengthen their motivation and readiness for change
• Facilitate referrals and admissions to withdrawal, rehabilitation, counselling and other community-based services
• Support people experiencing co-occurring mental health, substance use and psychosocial concerns
• Work closely with families, carers, referrers and other services to support coordinated care
• Present assessments and contribute to multidisciplinary clinical reviews where required
• Provide bridging support and follow-up to help consumers successfully connect with treatment
• Contribute to quality improvement, service development and contemporary AOD practice

We have two positions available, which are fixed term opportunities until December 2027. These positions will operate Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.00pm, with flexible start and finish times available.

About SECADA

SECADA is a single point of contact for a broad network of specialist alcohol and other drug services supporting young people and adults across Melbourne's south-east. As part of Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Services, SECADA provides Intake and Assessment, Counselling, Care and Recovery Coordination and pathways into residential withdrawal and rehabilitation services.

Our clinicians receive referrals from across the community, including directly from consumers and their families, GPs, courts and forensic services, mental health services and other alcohol and drug providers. You'll work within a multidisciplinary environment that brings together clinical expertise, strong community partnerships and a shared commitment to harm minimisation, recovery and person-centred care.

About You

You're an experienced Social Worker who can balance strong clinical judgement with curiosity, empathy and a genuinely person-centred approach. You're comfortable having complex conversations, assessing risk and working with people who may be uncertain or ambivalent about change. You understand that there isn't one pathway to recovery and can work alongside consumers to identify realistic goals and the supports that are right for them.

You'll bring:

• A minimum of two years' post-qualifying clinical experience
• Experience within alcohol and other drug, mental health and/or a relevant area of clinical practice
• Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and treatment-planning skills
• Knowledge of harm minimisation and the contemporary AOD service system
• Experience delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions
• An understanding of co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns
• The ability to work autonomously while remaining connected to a multidisciplinary team
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across health and community services
• A current Victorian Driver Licence

Experience providing Social Work assessment, intervention and case management within drug and alcohol services will be highly regarded.

About the Department & Program

Infant, Child, and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (ELMHS & Youth) provides assessment and treatment for infants, children, adolescents, young people and their families. We work with the 0-25 age group in the Southern Region, providing a comprehensive assessment service and a range of treatment options including inpatient treatment in times of crisis, community (outpatient) treatment, group programs, family therapy, and specialist services.

We work with families to address a number of complex issues they may be experiencing, including school refusal, parent/child relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, trauma related issues, self-harm, suicidal thinking, eating disorders, neuro developmental presentations and psychosis.

We also work collaboratively with families, schools and other agencies to create identified areas for change and work strongly from a relational and systemic framework.

About the Role

Join our team as a Mental Health Clinician for the CORE Adolescent Team on a full-time or part-time ongoing basis, within our Early in Life Mental Health Services (ELMHS) program at Monash Health. The CORE Adolescent Team delivers specialist mental health assessment and treatment to young people aged 12-17 years who experience severe and complex mental health challenges that cannot be managed by tier 1-4 services alone. At times, you may also provide support to the under 12s stream, ensuring continuity of care across the service.

While this role is predominantly clinic-based, you may also contribute to occasional outreach work, engaging with young people and families who are more difficult to reach. A key part of the role also involves shared-care collaboration with professionals from a wide range of agencies across the catchment, ensuring wraparound, holistic support for young people and their families.

About Monash Neurology

Monash Neurology is one of the largest provider of neurology patient care in Victoria and a state-wide designated endovascular clot retrieval centre. This unit sees over 2000 patients a year with a significant number of stroke patients. We have two concurrent stroke teams along with a neurology ward team and three consultation teams (Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital, and Casey Hospital). There is ample opportunity to rotate through various fields of neurology such as acute stroke management, multiple sclerosis, neurophysiology, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-degenerative diseases, neuro-otology, headache, and chronic neurology. Monash neurology also provide a large ambulatory services with a large number of EEG and EMG being performed providing excellent training opportunities. About the Role

There are 2.5 unaccredited neurology registrar positions available in 2027. This is supported by six core neurology advanced trainees. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at Casey Hospital, Monash Health to assist in covering long service leave from 24th November 2026 to 20th January 2027.

The paediatric unit at Casey has a 20 cot SCN and a 20 bed children's ward (shared with Paediatric Surgery and ENT), supported by a team of dedicated nurses and three other consultants to provide 24 hour cover. The unit has 8 FTE of registrars, an SRMO, 6 HMOs and a part time Clinical Nurse Consultant. Each paediatrician participates in a 1 in 4 roster of ward service, after hours cover and a number of outpatient clinics per month. The outpatient clinics have registrar or SRMO support. In addition, it is expected that consultants attend weekly teaching and clinical review meetings and contribute to the non clinical activities of the paediatric unit.

• Ward service week (1 week in 4): Supervision of morning handover Daily ward rounds of Paediatric Ward and Special Care Nursery and cover for advice and emergencies until 1700 Monday afternoon - General Paediatric outpatient clinic Tuesday afternoon - Results Review clinic Wed afternoon - Rapid Review clinic Thursday afternoon - cover registrars to allow their attendance at teaching On call Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
• Non ward service weeks: Monday morning General Paediatric outpatient clinic the week after ward service Thursday afternoon teaching attendance
• One night per week from (currently Tuesday nights) and Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights of ward service week
• Must be available to attend emergencies within 30 minutes (local accommodation may be able to be reimbursed if needed)
• Other duties: Supervision and mentorship of junior medical staff
