We want you to be successful in your new role! This means you'll have:

Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related human services field.

Experience delivering intensive casework with vulnerable children and families, ideally within family preservation, child protection or community-based support programs.

Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice, child safety and risk assessment, with the ability to identify and respond to child protection concerns.

Strong communication and engagement skills, including culturally safe practice and effective collaboration with families and service partners.

Practical requirements, including confidence with case documentation and systems, a current NSW Driver's Licence and NSW Working With Children Check.

About the Role

The Community Counsellor is a Darwin based position that will travel to Daly River on a regular basis and is responsible for engaging and networking with the Community for social, emotional and wellbeing in order for the program to meet its objectives. This position has a particular focus engaging and networking with the Daly River community to build relationships. This role will also support the Darwin Counselling team through one-on-one or group counselling support.

What we are looking for

• Relevant qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work (or related field) and relevant experience in a similar role
• Minimum five years' experience in relevant practice
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including ability to write effective case notes within a designated case note structure, and ability to contribute to funding contract reports.
• Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous people
• Demonstrated knowledge of Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework
• Ability to commit to FIFO role and willing to actively connect to community

This program is designed to provide support to participants who may face barriers to accessing mental health care due to their substance use, using a harm-minimisation and social and emotional wellbeing framework.

About the Role

The position is responsible for providing evidence-based counselling and case management for people who use substances and have co-occurring mental health needs, in order for the program to meet its objectives.
