The Nurse Manager role provides coordination and guidance in relation to nursing management practises by enabling and supporting operational and strategic organisational/divisional goals; working in collaboration with other Grade 7's supporting the staffing unit and the broader CHQ Operations Centre in overall efficient and effective management, benchmarking, maintaining standards and optimising patient/program outcomes.

About The Team

The Patient Flow and Safety Unit (PFSU) within QCH provides children's health services for children and young people from birth to 16 years of age and up to 18 years for established paediatric patients.

The PFSU coordinates the patient journey from admission to discharge, ensuring the wards are appropriately resourced to care for the inpatient cohort. It facilitates clinically appropriate placement of patients within acceptable timeframes, while continuing to support the provision of health services for children and families as close to their home as possible through outreach and telehealth services. The Unit also provides coordination of care for children where their condition exceeds the capability of their local hospital and health service.

About The Role

In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values.

You'll fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Schedule 2, Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015 - Generic Level Statements (GLS) Nurse Grade 7 and the Queensland Health and Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQHHS) commitments and values, in achievement of the organisational goals and Domains of Practice.

Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service is seeking a Nurse Manager to coordinate and guide nursing management across the Patient Flow and Safety Unit, supporting operational and strategic goals.

You will coach staff to deliver high-quality paediatric care, lead in alignment with CHQ Leadership Excellence Framework, and contribute to safe patient journeys from admission to discharge across CHQ facilities.

About the Role

• Clinically assess patients, arrange necessary investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge under the supervision of consultants.
• Attend and assist with procedures and become competent in appropriate clinical and technical practice under supervision. This includes ultrasound for vascular access, lung, and cardiac.
• Maintain comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records for assigned patients.
• Ensure that discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed without delay and communication with other specialty teams and healthcare agencies is maintained.
• Work collaboratively with nursing staff and allied health professionals.
• Participate in clinical outreach services of the PICU i.e. assessment and management of children in other locations of the hospital.
• Participate in the registrar education program.
• Take part in audits and quality management meetings and initiatives of the PICU.
• Completes quality improvement activities by undertaking clinical audits and clinical risk management activities on an annual basis.
• Participate in bedside teaching of medical students on placement in the PICU.

Additional responsibilities for senior registrars:

• Participate in the Paediatric Retrieval Service (CHQRS)
• Supervise junior registrars to develop procedural skills and other ICU clinical skills
