Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking a Director of Child and Adolescent Mental Health to join our Mental Health Services team.

The Director Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service SLHD holds responsibility as the medical leader and manager of the clinical services, medical staff and training, research and quality programs and other functions relevant to the Service. The Director will work within the SLHD Mental Health Executive to ensure activities within the Service align to broader SLHD objectives.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service provides specialist mental health services to children and adolescents from 5-18 years of age and their families. These services are provided at outpatient clinics and in community settings. The Rivendell Adolescent Unit provides hospital-based care for adolescents in school years 7-12 in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education. Walker Unit at Concord Centre for Mental Health is a NSW-wide specialist adolescent unit for young people with a history of multiple or prolonged mental health unit admissions. Non-admitted services are provided by Community Adolescent Outreach Services at Camperdown and Canterbury Community Health Centres, and the Safeguards team and outpatient services at Rivendell.

The Director Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service will work in collaboration with medical nursing and allied health colleagues to promote evidence-based practice and innovation for excellence in care and continuous improvement. The Director will also manage clinical quality, critical incidents and complaints, financial management and performance of the service and operation of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service facilities. In addition to their Director role, they will provide clinical management of patients as part of the senior medical workforce and within their approved scope of clinical practice.

As clinical leader, they will enhance clinical engagement and professional practice and standards, as well as a culture of respect for the individual, teamwork and continuous performance improvement.

The successful applicant will be a current registered Medical practitioner, registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (RANZCP) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.

What you'll be doing

Provide contemporary comprehensive Specialist General Physician services for optimal patient outcomes.

Provide and support training for registrars and junior medical officers to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice.

We provide a range of elective and emergency surgical services; general surgery, urology, ophthalmology, gynaecology and obstetrics. It is supported by a close observation Unit.

The new Level 4 Eurobodalla Regional Hospital will include:

• Increased capacity for chemotherapy treatments and increased access to renal dialysis
• Surgical and operating theatres and a day stay surgical unit
• Expanded medical imaging, including MRI
• Ambulatory care for community outpatient services
• Paediatric and maternity services, and a special care nursery

Selection Criteria:

• Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Physician or equivalent overseas qualification (Internal Medicine) either eligible for Expedited Specialist Pathway or substantially comparable on the RACP Specialist IMG Pathway.
• Demonstrated current clinical experience in General / Acute / Internal Medicine at an appropriate Level 4 health service.
• Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance principles including the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards in Australia.

What you'll be doing

The NSW Government has funded $330 million to build a sustainable, modern and purpose-built hospital to support the needs of the entire Eurobodalla Community. The facility is due to open in 2027. What you'll be doing

The Paediatrician will provide expert paediatric medical assessment and management of patients within the Department of Paediatrics. Role also includes a key clinical role in teaching, supervision and support of junior medical staff. The position will commence at the current Moruya Hospital and assist in the transition to the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital. Once established the role will primarily be located at Eurobodalla Regional Hospital however may be varied as agreed with the District Director of Medical Services and District Medical Lead (Paediatrics) and as approved via Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) to other facilities in Southern NSW. The Paediatrician will be the first Eurobodalla based paediatrician joining the coastal paediatric team based at South East Regional Hospital. The Eurobodalla paediatrician will be expected to provide outpatient clinics at the current Moruya Hospital and then the Eurobodalla Regional Hospital and outreach clinics in Narooma and Batemans Bay with the possibility of additional sites being added in the future. The paediatrician will participate in the provision of education and training in the SNSWLHD Coastal Network. This position also involves 1in 4 participation in a 24/7 on call roster to Eurobodalla Regional Hospital with telehealth consultation services to hospitals in the Coastal Network. The scope of practice and clinical privileges are defined in the scope of clinical practice for general paediatrics Southern NSW LHD attached to this document.

Selection Criteria

Recognised specialist qualifications - Fellow of The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) with Advanced Skills Training in Paediatrics

Demonstrated recent clinical experience and competence in general paediatric medicine including acute care, neonatal care and outpatient general paediatrics (including learning, development and behavioural medicine). In this contract opportunity until June 2028, lead transformational collaboration across the Maribyrnong Catchment, supporting Traditional Owners leadership and self determination and bringing together government agencies, local councils, community groups and industry partners to deliver meaningful environmental, social and community outcomes. The Maribyrnong Catchment is a complex and dynamic ecosystem that encompasses land, waterways, communities, culture and several layers of governance and is under severe pressure, making this a role with genuine purpose and impact.

As the Maribyrnong Catchment Collaboration Lead, you will be at the forefront of building partnerships, influencing strategic outcomes and driving collective action to address some of the region's key integrated catchment challenges. You'll have the opportunity to connect diverse stakeholders, align priorities and turn ambitious ideas into lasting results for the catchment and the communities that depend on it.

• Facilitate and coordinate the collaboration group, its governance, budget and co-delivery of the strategic plan
• Work with partners to advocate for the Maribyrnong catchment
• Build and sustain relationships with, and seek participation of, a diverse range of stakeholders across the catchment
• Assist coordination of catchment-wide projects and enable outcomes
• Work with Subject-Matter Experts to plan and act strategically for an integrated approach to catchment management
• Prepare monitoring, evaluation and communication of key issues, learnings and progress, the results of which may be provided to external groups
• Increase visibility of the Maribyrnong and its catchment
• Work closely with key strategic projects underway in the Maribyrnong catchment including the Maribyrnong Flood Mitigation study
• Lived experience or extensive understanding of First Peoples and their living culture
